Springtime Motorcycle Riding
Winter is almost over, and with the spring comes a whole new set of riding conditions. Your motorcycle can tough it out, but there are a few things you can do to make sure your rides are safe and efficient, especially if your bike has been stored away for the winter. We here at Peak Powersports want you to get the most out of your bike, so we’ve put together a few tips for spring riding. If you want to know more, or you want to see our motorcycles for sale, contact our store in Sheridan, Wyoming, today!
Visual Inspection
If you’re pulling your bike out of storage, you’ll want to give it a thorough once-over to make sure nothing happened to it during the long winter months. Break out your owner’s manual to see if there’s any recommended maintenance for this situation. Focus on:
- Testing tire pressure
- Checking oil level and condition
- Fueling up
- Checking the battery
- Testing lights and signals
Brush Up Your Riding
Any time our bike goes away for a while, there’s the chance we might get a bit rusty—motorcycles aren’t like bicycles, after all. Even a few weeks of no riding can impact your muscle memory. Ride around the block, or through an empty parking lot, a few times to make sure you’re ready to go before you hit the highway. This is another good chance to make sure your bike is in good condition! Listen closely and feel for any grinding, stalling, or unfamiliar vibrations.
Maintenance
If you find any serious issues during your visual inspection, you should take your bike in for maintenance immediately. Any issues you hear or feel during your initial ride-abouts should also warrant a service visit. Riding a damaged or failing motorcycle is dangerous to you and everyone around you, so take care! For those who aren’t sure where to take their maintenance concerns, our Peak Powersports service department is ready and waiting to get your bike the best care it can get.
Take A Class
Whether you’re new to the game or old-hat, spring is a great time to take a class and learn some new skills or bolster your existing ones. There are plenty of places that offer courses for riders of all skill levels and experience—there’s always something new you can master! These classes might teach you a more efficient riding style, or even just show you how to care for your bike better.
We hope this helps you get back on the road and back to chasing down the horizon! If you want more advice, or you’re on the market for a motorcycle, contact us at Peak Powersports. We proudly serve the people of Buffalo and Sheridan, Wyoming—let us serve you today!
