Snowmobiling in Wyoming
Our state is known for its vast expanses of wide, open space and continental climate, which make it a perfect place for any avid snowmobiler to practice their sport. But where precisely should you go, when there are so many trails to choose from?
If you’re searching for places to snowmobile in Wyoming, we’ve got the answers for you. As your local snowmobile dealer, Peak Powersports, LLC, in Sheridan has gathered up some of our top places to take your sled here in the Cowboy State.
Bear Lodge (Sundance, WY)
Located in the very northeastern corner of the state, just north of Sundance, Bear Lodge provides sled riders with 78 miles of groomed trails and 9 miles of ungroomed trails. The snow here is anywhere from one to four feet deep, and temperatures can sink well below 0°F due to the high elevation, so you’ll need to bundle up. Amenities, lodging and snowmobile repairs can be found in Sundance or in nearby Hulett.
Continental Divide Snowmobile Trails (Dubois, WY)
Nestled in the heart of Wind River Country, this massive trail system offers you two sections of sled riding: north and south. With 596 miles of groomed trails in the northern portion and acres of off-trail riding possible, you can coast through snow that’s anywhere from one to ten feet deep. The Togwotee Pass goes through two national parks and offers you unmatched views of the pristine beauty of rural Wyoming near Yellowstone.
As for the southern portion, you can ride over 100 miles of groomed trails through the mountains and their many lakes. Either way you choose, the Continental Divide trail system is gorgeous and full of scenic variety.
Snowy Range (Laramie, WY)
The Snowy Range Mountains get an impressive 300” of snow per year, thanks to their high elevation at over 7,000 feet and their brisk, below-freezing temperatures. Layer up and hit the 200 miles of groomed trails or the 120 miles of marked, ungroomed trails. You’ll be conveniently close to all the amenities offered by the city of Laramie, so you can ride through the forests and mountains all day, then cozy up in your hotel room at night. Both beginners and experts will find terrain to suit their skill levels here.
Casper Mountain (Casper, WY)
This area provides you with 46 miles of groomed and marked trails, along with a large area of ungroomed open space for sledding. Facilities and services are available in nearby Casper. Snow depths range between one and three feet, and temperatures here also get very brisk, due to the elevation of 7,000 feet.
Greys River Trailhead (Jackson, WY)
As part of an extensive network of snowmobiles in and around Jackson Hole—45 miles to the south of Jackson proper, to be precise—you can enjoy a relatively uncluttered sledding destination amid the Wyoming Range. With wide expanses of snow-coated meadows filled with wildlife, you’re sure to see some sights that you’ll remember for years to come. You can choose to take a guided tour if you prefer or strike out with a few friends instead.
Of course, these aren’t the only places you can go with your snowmobile in Wyoming, but we hope that we’ve given you some great ideas to help you plan your next sledding adventure!
