ATVs and UTVs are the perfect vehicles to use all year long, but especially during the summer months. With warmer weather and sunshine on the horizon, you’re probably thinking about taking your machine out on the trails. Keep reading to learn some useful ATV/UTV riding tips for the summer. If you’re looking to buy a new powersports vehicle, contact Peak Powersports LLC in Sheridan, Wyoming. We are proud to serve Buffalo too!

Proper Attire

Just because the weather is warmer doesn’t mean you can shed all of your ATV/UTV riding gear. You still need to wear the proper attire to protect yourself from injuries on the trails. Wear clothes that keep your skin protected from flying debris as well as the sun. We suggest wearing light layers of long sleeves and long pants that are made out of breathable fabrics like cotton or linen. These will go a long way in protecting your skin this summer.

Of course, you can’t forget your helmet! A motocross helmet is the best choice for riding your ATV or UTV this summer. Don’t forget your goggles or some other type of eye protection. You can even get goggles with UV protection. While gloves and boots may seem excessive in the summer, they are critical for protecting your feet and hands from debris.

Ride in the Shade

One way to avoid the heat while riding your vehicle this summer is to ride in the shade as much as possible. You can consider changing your usual ATV/UTV route to a cool, shaded path instead of a track in the open air. If you do have skin exposed to the sun, make sure to wear sweat-proof sunscreen.

Stay Hydrated

Another important part of riding your machine in the summer is staying hydrated. Your body will lose plenty of water and salt through sweat which can lead to dehydration. When you become dehydrated, you’re less able to react quickly since you can’t focus as well. Pack a few bottles of water into the cargo bay of your ATV or UTV.

Take Breaks

Last but not least, don’t forget to take breaks! Riding all day long under the sun isn’t realistic. We suggest taking a trail with some shady scenic views that you can stop at along the way. Maybe you want to dip your feet in a creek or lake. The most important thing is to know your limits and don’t push yourself too hard!
