Riding in a Group
Sometimes you don't want to hit the open road on your own. Group riding is a great way to bring the gang together, make memories, and make your ride even better. It's no wonder so many people prefer riding with others to riding solo.
But to make a successful ride, you'll need a little proactivity. Here at Peak Powersports LLC, we enjoy making things as easy as possible for you. We rounded up the top tips for group riding below. For all your motorcycle needs, visit our dealership in Sheridan, Wyoming.
Packing
Anytime you hit the road, you need some basic supplies. Always bring along a mini tool kit, a first aid kit, rainproof outerwear, food, and water. If your trip involves spending the night somewhere, take along toiletries, clothing, and any medication you use. It helps to make a list that you can check off as you load items onto your motorcycle.
Get Your Motorcycle Ready
No one wants to be that guy - the person who holds up the group because their motorcycle is experiencing preventable issues. Always fill up your gas tank before a group ride (and encourage your buddies to do the same).
You'll also want to make sure your ride is ready to ride! Give your motorcycle a pre-ride inspection. Check that the tire tread and air pressure is in accordance with the manufacturer's recommendation. Test your lights, brakes, and so on. Top off any low fluids. If you catch any issues, bring your bike to Peak Powersports LLC. Our expert staff can repair it before your ride.
Plan the Route
When you ride solo, you can hit the open road and see where it takes you. When you ride in a group, you need a little more coordination than that. Otherwise, group members can get lost and separated.
Make a list of the must-see sights, whether they be tourists attractions, hiking spots, or something else. Build a route that hits them all. Then review the route again as a group before hitting the route. It also helps to check the route to ensure there aren't any closed roads or odd traffic jams. If there are, you'll want to adjust your route accordingly.
Choose Your Riding Formation
Pick a riding formation as a group. Every rider will have their place, which makes things much easier. It helps keep people from getting separated or lost. It also makes your group much more visible on the road, which keeps you safer from other motorists.
Most people go with the staggered double line (or a zipper) formation. The person next to you is one second ahead of you. The people in front and behind you are two seconds away. If you took a bird's eye view, your group would look like a zipper.
Hand Signals
You'll need some way to communicate as a group. The road noise is too loud to be able to just yell at each other. Even if you have radios, you'll want a hand signal backup in case the radios malfunction. Create signs for identifying a hazard on the road, stopping, turning, and a pull off signal.
Before you hit the road, make sure your motorcycle is in good working condition. If you need a tune up, bring it on over to Peak Powersports LLC. Our expert staff can get it running like new.
