How To Build Your Own Powersports Track
Building your very own powersports track isn’t a simple task, but it can be a dream come true for a true enthusiast. Imagine having a track literally in your own backyard. While this clearly isn’t viable for everyone, with a little creativity, you would be surprised at what you can accomplish. Follow these simple steps from Peak Powersports LLC to get yourself started on crafting a dream course.
Make Sure You Can Build A Powersports Track
There are a number of potential obstacles to creating a powersports track, so before you put down any money, you should be sure that you have a viable plan. Know if you need any permits before you begin building, and be sure that you will not be violating any noise restrictions. It may be necessary to discuss things with your neighbors beforehand to make sure that your riding will not inconvenience them. Consider using fences and tree buffers to provide a barrier between them and your activities.
Finally, consider the land itself. It should be free of obstacles like boulders and trees and offer enough space for a viable track. If any of these requirements are not met, you may have to rethink your plans or come up with a creative solution.
Consider Who Will Use The Powersports Track
If you are lucky enough to have a viable site, you can start to plan the layout. Consider who will be using the track. For example, you may choose to create a basic course to ease your children into riding. Others will want a more difficult course so that they can sharpen their skills. Regardless, do not create a course too advanced for you to ride safely. If non-family members will be using the track, you may want to consider taking out insurance in case of injury.
Plan The Layout
Once you have decided on a difficulty level, ride around the site in your powersports vehicle. This will help you brainstorm ideas. When planning jumps, use natural features as much as possible and keep at least 30 feet between jumps. You may not have thought about it, but drainage is important when planning the track. Water can erode your track, potentially making it unsightly or even unsafe. If you cannot use natural slopes for drainage, you will have to slope the terrain yourself or add drainage pipes. Use ropes to plot out where things will go.
Build Your Powersports Track
The actual building will be a major undertaking, so make sure you have planned extensively before you begin. You will likely have to move massive amounts of dirt before you are done, so consider renting a small bulldozer.
When building a jump, pile up the dirt so that it is as close to your intended shape as possible. Use the bulldozer to pack the dirt down before smoothing over everything with the blade. For every three feet of length, you should have about a foot of height.
For your first time building a track, aim for a simpler course. You can always make adjustments or additions later, and you will get better feedback from actually riding on it than looking at a drawing board.
